A disciplined mind leads to happiness,
and an undisciplined mind leads to suffering.

Dalai Lama XIV

If you do not conquer self,
you will be conquered by self.

Napoleon Hill

Nothing is more harmful to the service
, than the neglect of discipline; for that discipline,
more than numbers, gives one army superiority over another.
George Washington

 Practice yourself,
for heaven’s sake in little things,
and then proceed to greater.

Epictetus

 To read a newspaper
is to refrain from reading something worth while.
The first discipline of education
must therefore be to refuse resolutely
to feed the mind with canned chatter.

Aleister Crowley

Circumstances are beyond human control,
but our conduct is in our own power.

Benjamin Disraeli

It was character that got us out of bed,
commitment that moved us into action
and
discipline that enabled us to follow through.
Zig Ziglar

Beware of endeavoring to become a great man in a hurry. One such attempt in ten thousand may succeed. These are fearful odds.
  Benjamin Disraeli

Would you agree with the Title of this article? I think everyone of us Experienced this in our life that it is very much Essential ingredient, Few people has mastered that art, and others like me are still under process,  Well more or less every one know this fact that self discipline is must, but few people are aware that the seeds of self discipline must be sown Very early in the life, and make them repeatedly understand the principle of success is in self regulation, self restraint and self discipline to reach heights of life.

Gurukulam used to be incubation of great minds in ancient India, where there were students of different communities study under one roof, according to their personal abilities and samskaras , the field of knowledge is allotted by the Guru himself. Interesting thing of Gurukuls was that whether they are sons and daughters of king or ordinary peasant  they used to undergo similar treatment, and the same facilities, training would be given to the mind. Many a parents Repeatedly tell their kids to do hard work that would give them success but true thing is Hard work should be applied with Methodology (विधि  पूर्वक ) or else
what is the use of doing hard work अविधि पूर्वक for several years, and stay aloof? would it bring results? , so therefore Discipline the whole body-mind system, that condition of Mind would actually bring results,
Those guys who are trained their mind to अविधि पूर्वक (wildly/without methodology) will never get success in their respective field. They never even know that some thing can be achieved in their life, they drift and play all the life, they can just spend their lives into non productive works without purpose and never listen to any Vidhi as their faith is towards that condition which is wild, it is  like a Boulder been kept under the sea water for million of years still it will not  recede water inside.

Can we train the mind? irrespective of age, geography , culture or gender, the answer is Yes, we can if the candidate is ready to listen, willing to surrender his wild thoughts. More than that; Does he have faith on the Guru? (the master or mentor), if yes than he can learn the Vidhi or methodology to discipline it to a PURPOSE like a Gardner does to his orchard. A Potter does to the soil, A sculptor does to the hard Rock, we can shape the life and give a Direction and purpose. If this the conclusion, than what are we waiting for? Why not protect our kids for being Avidhi porvak (wild methods) mind and Mold them to a Required shape, mend them to a purpose?

Shouldn't we start  it Early?
Expertise is from Ancient Indian Methods  from Patanjali Yoga  , their method would bring Indiryas ( congitive senses) to standstill along with the mind. Finally Ego is tamed, and molded to invest the their energies in such a manner which we can all it as Productive.

Sanskrit
English
1)  Yama                   यम
 Moral codes
2)  Niyama               नियम
Self-purification and study
3)  Asana                  आसन
Posture
4)  Pranayama         प्राणायाम
Breath control
5)  Pratyahara          प्रत्याहार
Withdrawing of the mind from senses
6)  Dharana              धारणा
Concentration
7)  Dhyana                ध्यान
Deep meditation
8)  Samadhi              समाधि
Union with the object of meditation.

Except the 7, and 8 all others can be started to 7 year old child and onwards, early is the best, and that was the common practice for every one in those days , by the age 12-16  they reach the age of adolescent they become master of their senses and mind and ready to  get enter into marital knot, that's the reason every one was self depend in their views and liberal to choose not only the field of work, but Swayamvara practice (girl used to choose the boy ,on her own based on her likings) every one tried to do their work by giving best training to their own mind respective to their abilities.

Note : If some one find it difficult to practice these, All 6 points can be mastered with one act Singing Bhajan to Lord., other two also with Bhakti yoga. our ancient saints did this like Tyagaraja , Tukaram etc

Now in the contemporary world, is it possible or not parents has to decide themselves , but one thing is sure that without discipline the mind, No one can become Master of himself.

These things will destroy the Human Race:
 Politics without principle,
 Progress without compassion
Wealth without work,
Learning without silence,
Religion without fearlessness
 and Worship without awareness.

Teach the kids; Difference between NEEDS and WANTS

Teach the kids; Difference between NEEDS and WANTS, not dump them to chase trends in the name of economic Development which is nothing more than an Illusion, it is a story sold by corporates to increase consumption,  whereas these companies philosophy is based on consumption, faster the consumption more the economic growth is assumed, so the machine goes , Economize means what? is it not means to avoid waste to conserve ? but the present system is just opposite, the more you consume, the more Developed  you are considered, we are brainwashed continuously to accumulate more  material possessions is directly proportional to your happiness, which is eventually creating shortages of finite resources consumed at free will, the more shortage the demand, the more demand more profits.
Our ancient Asian countries where presumed the development of human being at a different  level , unlike the western society constantly producing human robos who is just devised to consume, consume more and more, and pretend to be rich. Lets understand this by  zen story as an illustration.

More Is Not Enough The Stone Cutter.

There was once a stone cutter who was dissatisfied with himself and with his position in life.

One day he passed a wealthy merchant's house. Through the open gateway, he saw many fine possessions and important visitors. "How powerful that merchant must be!" thought the stone cutter. He became very envious and wished that he could be like the merchant.
To his great surprise, he suddenly became the merchant, enjoying more luxuries and power than he had ever imagined, but envied and detested by those less wealthy than himself. Soon a high official passed by, carried in a sedan chair, accompanied by attendants and escorted by soldiers beating gongs. Everyone, no matter how wealthy, had to bow low before the procession. "How powerful that official is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be a high official!"

Then he became the high official, carried everywhere in his embroidered sedan chair, feared and hated by the people all around. It was a hot summer day, so the official felt very uncomfortable in the sticky sedan chair. He looked up at the sun. It shone proudly in the sky, unaffected by his presence. "How powerful the sun is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be the sun!" Then he became the sun, shining fiercely down on everyone, scorching the fields, cursed by the farmers and laborers. But a huge black cloud moved between him and the earth, so that his light could no longer shine on everything below. "How powerful that storm cloud is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be a cloud!"

Then he became the cloud, flooding the fields and villages, shouted at by everyone. But soon he found that he was being pushed away by some great force, and realized that it was the wind. "How powerful it is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be the wind!"

Then he became the wind, blowing tiles off the roofs of houses, uprooting trees, feared and hated by all below him. But after a while, he ran up against something that would not move, no matter how forcefully he blew against it - a huge, towering rock. "How powerful that rock is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be a rock!"

Then he became the rock, more powerful than anything else on earth. But as he stood there, he heard the sound of a hammer pounding a chisel into the hard surface, and felt himself being changed. "What could be more powerful than I, the rock?" he thought.
He looked down and saw far below him the figure of a stone cutter. Identical story from Indian scriptures click here > उसका तुकम् ना बदला।

conclusion: You are the most powerful in whatever form you are, don't compare with any one else. you been made unique and most amazing person on this planet in a way. Stop comparing with some  one else. Just identify yourself why are you so powerful in yourself, what makes you amazingly unique and interesting.
Now how this story is useful to convey kids to tell that why should we not follow others, Instead they are very special, unique and beautiful in their way.

Let us first Analise these questions coming to mind. Why do they fall prey to cartoon networks? or why do they become addicted to some thing which is glamorous and fantasizing ? why do they eat junks?

All the answer lie in the this fact that they are seeing others  who are more glamorous, more powerful, more fantastic than themselves, temporarily getting influenced is different, we all are similar like those kids getting effected with the environment temporarily but getting addiction is different, it is slavery. slavery to  be in certain state of mind. which will eventually ruin their life, to get struck up to every moment, and unable to decide by themselves anything, they ask am I right? am I right? these kids will become Adult of tomorrow and will have tough time in relationships.

Accept whatever you look like, just become best whatever you are. Buying expensive car, eating junk @mnc outlet, playing with expensive gifts, or wearing most trendy clothes is not the life, to make them think proactively and meaningful way, we need to show them Great people life stories as role model, not the fan of some bugs and buggers of entertainment Industry.

when they grew up, they can choose the way which is best based on their Abilities, dreams, passions, but Building the strong Character irrespective of any field they choose, is most necessity of life, and do you think strong character likely to be possessed,  if some one don't have SELF-DISCIPLINE?

Making kids MoneySmart

A Wonderful initiative by Australian govt to improve financial literacy  of the nation, interesting things is the concept of promoting it, the research stands valid same for the urban elite in the India, sooner or later the money would be completely become invisible in India too, hence teaching about the money should be told in right way from the childhood, but the way how it has to be is to be asked ourselves, off course it has  to be the modern way, adopting technology, social networking, the same ipad, the same apps, but give the right message at right time, look at the way they are promoting it. we must learn from this.
